The Story of Taco John's
The Story of Taco John's
The following is a story copied directly from a
tray cover at Taco John's. This is the "true" history of Taco John's.
It started in Wyoming. Or so the story goes.
Where they like real, honest-to-goodness, authentic Mexican food.
And lots of it.
A fellow named Juan, or some called him John, came up to
Cheyenne to cook for the cowboys out on the range.
They were always mighty glad to see Juan's smiling face.
Because he'd rustle them up the kind of big, hearty Mexican meals those hard-working,
hungry cowpokes just flat-out appreciated. His secret blend of spices and seasonings
made Juan's tacos and burritos "tastier than all get-out".
Well, before too long, folks from all over were talking about
Juan and his great-tasting Mexican food. Everybody told him he ought to open a restaurant
and start selling his delicious dishes.
So he did exactly that.
Since he didn't have much money, he started the first Taco
John's in a small trailer. He just parked it on a street corner, and put a big, colorful
sign on it.
And faster than you could say olé, Taco John's had come to
town.
The word spread fast that Juan served some of the best Mexican
food this side of the Rio Grande. And people kept asking him if he would open a
restaurant near them. After thinking a lot, he decided to go ahead and open up a few more
Taco John's.
But, they had to use his special recipes, and cook just the
way he did. Fresh to order, from only the best ingredients available.
Today, Taco John's Restaurants can be found all across the
country.
Each one is a little bit different.
But they're known for generous portions of authentic Mexican
food. Cooked up fresh and hot. Served by friendly and caring people. And always for
an honest price. Just the way Juan would do it. Which is saying A Whole Lot.
We were trying to figure out why Juan got
changed to John, and we came to the conclusion that when he came to America to become a
citizen, Juan failed the citizenship test. But he wanted everyone to think he was an
American, so he named his restaurant "Taco John's."
And history was made!
