Blink-182 -- LIVE!!
Thursday, July 5, 2001 // Milwaukee, WI
Well, this was quite a fun concert. Kathleen,
Terry, and I arrived at Summerfest at
about 6:30. We went to the comedy stage and watched Lewis Black for about 45
minutes. He is a very funny, and very angry man. Anyway, after that, we went
to the Marcus Amphitheater to see the Blink-182 show. Well, we ate at the
Arby's stand and while we were eating, we heard what we thought was New
Found Glory starting to play. So, we went in, only to find that it was some
band I've never heard of and I don't even remember their name. After them,
New Found Glory came out and played their set, including the ever so famous
"Hit Or Miss." By then, it was about 9:00. At 9:30, the lights went down
and everyone became loud. The curtains opened and Blink-182 took the stage.
The yellow drums that Travis used on the last tour had been traded for some
festive red, white, and blue drums, and they had the word "BLINK" spelled out
in giant letters across the back of the stage. They started with "The Rock
Show" and practically scared the hell out of me when they broke out the
pyrotechnics. Interestingly, they only used pyrotechnics during songs from
the new album, Take Off Your Pants And Jacket. The highlight of the
show (for me, anyway) was Travis's drum solo during "Roller Coaster." About
20 seconds prior to the solo, the platform that his drums were on actually
moved forward to the front of the stage. Then, while he was busting out his
sweet solo, it rotated around and around. It was very kewl. The second best
part of the show was when this super drunk, annoying guy fell down the steps
next to our section. We all had a good laugh. The concert was
about 1.5 hours long, and they still made fun of each others' moms, but there
were two things that really disappointed me. 1) The only song they played from
Dude Ranch was "Dammit," and 2) They didn't play any funny short songs.
The only one they did was a new version of "The Country Song." All in all,
it was a good concert. The following is a list of the songs they played
from each album.
